Lightning Ridge 30ml Perfume

This 30ml bottle scent was made especially for our Fire & Facets opal jewellery exhibition in 2018. We have a limited number of these scents available, using rare and fabulous ingredients by a talented young perfumer Harrison Sherwood at the award winning Indie Perfume House, 4160 Tuesdays. A perfect way to conjure the scent of the origin of these Lightning Ridge opals hand cut by Palaeontologist Loren Gurche for our jewellery collaboration with A Thousand Facets and 20 amazing jewellery designers.

“In this fragrance I wanted to explore the smell not of opals themselves (since they have none) but the smells one might discover where opals might be found. The image that came to my mind when researching opal mines was of vast underground cathedrals, so the perfume takes heavy inspiration from religious smells like frankincense and amber. The main accord of the perfume puts a collection of materials together which remind some people of pleasantly damp, cold stone, but glinting in the distance you can smell some contrast; veins of opal amongst the rock.  In addition, compared to lots of mines, opal mines tend not to be that far underground, so the botanical elements of the perfume nod to this -- I wanted to suggest that such mines are close enough to the surface even for you to be able to see/smell roots of various plants; iris, vetiver, etc. The ground is the ceiling.” - 4160 Tuesdays

The Designer 

4160 Tuesdays is an artisan perfumery based in London, making adventurous scents since 2011. Their perfumes are inspired by a place or a person at a certain moment, and created by their perfumer, Sarah McCartney. 4160 Tuesdays believes in making our world a lovelier place starting with the small space around us and working outwards, often adding adventure, wit and humour to their scents.
