Deep Red Sea Whorl Ring
Distinctly irregular, this 18ct yellow gold ruby ring conjures Emily's 'imperfectly natural' style with its luxurious, off-kilter character. Dotted with delicious red rubies and twinkling diamonds, this ring could be worn as an alternative engagement ring or a special anniversary gift.
Size P, the first resize is complementary.
Ruby, the birthstone of July, is known as the “king of precious stones” for its rarity, hardness (second only to diamond), beauty and seemingly mystical powers. Long associated with the life force blood, ruby was a symbol of power and youthful energy in ancient jewellery. It is also the gem that married couples traditionally gift on their 40th wedding anniversary.
Emily Nixon's work is greatly shaped by living in West Cornwall. Beach finds are tools in the process of her making. "I love the fabric-like twists and folds of seaweed; the diversity in the contours of pebbles; the weathered character of flotsam I see washed up along the shore. This dichotomy of the precious and the organic – special stones encircled by sea-worn fragments of gold – characterises so much of my inspiration. At the heart of my work remains the sculpture and tapestry of my early fine art practice."
