Opal And Diamond Speckle Earrings
Shimmering miniature Australian opals are each paired with a sparkling white diamond. The earrings are made from solid and recycled 18ct yellow gold, with a sterling silver back and ear post, all alloyed in Rachel's central London studio. The gold has a matte finish to really show the buttery yellow tone of the metal. Each opal has been sourced from miners in Australia and hand cut by Ancients17 in the USA.
Earring size approx 12mm x 7mm
Opal, the birthstone of October, represents confidence, faith, and hope. People who have it as their birthstone have a certain magnetism, which helps them make friends very easily. Opals were considered among the most magical of gemstones. Because of their highly desirable play of colours and stunning natural attributes, the opal was highly valued and coveted, and used to be considered the stone of kings. It is also the stone given to celebrate 14 years of marriage.
The Designer
Rachel Jones’s handcrafted jewellery brings together colourful gemstones and gold that shifts in light to mesmerise. Brimming with colour, each piece is a one of a kind treasure, that brings the joy of colour through artistry and craftsmanship. Since completing her MA in 2018 from London’s prestigious Royal College of Art, Rachel Jones has continued to research and experiment with gold in order to create bespoke colours and alloys of gold.
Inspired by precious jewellery materials, Rachel works with the foundations of jewellery from her London studio; gold and gemstones. Through hand selecting multi-coloured or colour changing gems to alloying her own gold in-house, Rachel creates future heirlooms with a contemporary twist.
Each gemstone is paired with the perfect colour and tone of gold, from buttery 18ct yellow to cool 18ct white or romantic 18ct pink gold. The alchemy of gold is used to craft a spectrum of tones and hues but alloying fine gold, fine silver, copper and sometimes palladium. This means each piece is individual to the wearer and will become a future heirloom to last for generations to come.
