Tourmaline is one of the birthstones of October, and is the more durable of the two, its counterpart being opal. Tourmaline has been said to be a stone of reconciliation, a stone that fosters compassion and cool headedness, healing and friendship. It also creates a commitment towards the completion of one’s goals and is said to protect the wearer against dangers.  It is also the gem that married couples traditionally gift on their 8th wedding anniversary.

The Designer

Georgina Hopkin is a London-based jewellery designer and maker whose work blends traditional fine jewellery techniques with contemporary design. Working from her studio in East London, Georgina creates intriguing jewellery through the use of material exploration  and unusual or irregular gemstones. At the heart of her jewellery brand lies a fascination with modern-day talismans—small, detailed treasures that feel both ancient and alive. Each piece is intentionally imperfect: molten, wobbly, and organic, as though unearthed from an ancient time.

Originally from a small town in Surrey, Georgina moved to London to study Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins, where she graduated with First Class Honours. Drawn to the city's creative energy, she found inspiration in its diversity, pace, and openness to experimentation—elements that continue to shape her work today. Her designs are driven by a deep curiosity for materials and a desire to surprise and delight the wearer.

Georgina has always had a flair for creativity, rooted in a love for hands-on creation and experimentation. Her creative journey has included work across a wide range of disciplines—from theatre set design to digital illustration—giving her a broad and interdisciplinary perspective that informs her jewellery practice. She was drawn to jewellery as it was the ideal meeting point between fashion design and product design, allowing her to create small-scale, three-dimensional objects with a strong connection to the human body.
