DUALITY Aquamarine Pear Earrings with Inlaid Tubular Drops by Lyndsay Fairley
Elegant earrings with a fascinating texture made from a unique pattern of bronze wires, which have been patinated to darken the tone, and reveal touches of turquoise, creating a bold contrast with the silver. The pattern is laid out by hand; as with a drawing, each is unique. Adorned with a shimmering pear shaped aquamarine and sterling silver ear posts.
Drawing is a vital part of the jeweller's design process, using mark-making to develop abstract impressions from the coastal landscape. Playing with the theme of duality and contrast within the pair of earrings itself - where they are intentionally non-matching – her pieces vary with each iteration. This expresses the shifting nature of her subject matter, where land meets sea, and tides leave ephemeral beauty for us to find.

The Designer
Lyndsay Fairley’s jewellery collection ‘Na Mara’ (meaning ‘of the sea’ in Gaelic), originated from a visit to a North Queensferry beach; captured by the messy compositions of debris created by the tides, her work explores unconventional beauty, creating pieces based on Scottish coastal-finds. Lyndsay makes her work in Glasgow, using a palette based on these finds; sandy tones of silver, base metals and gold, sometimes contrasted by patina, create pattern in metal-like seaweed on the sand. Accented by gemstones, she uses a self-developed technique of wire-inlay, creating pieces with a distinctive, gestural aesthetic – as with a drawing, each is unique.
