Sapphire and Diamond Cluster Bar Necklace
A pretty asymmetric cluster of green and blue sapphires (0.55ct) with white and champagne diamonds (0.55ct), on a fine linked chain with toggle clasp, all set in 14ct yellow gold. Like a precious treasure from a bygone era, the tapering cluster of sapphires and diamonds are framed by intricate gold work. This necklace fuses the influences of Ruth’s travels and fascination with India with a sense of history not amiss in a Renaissance still life painting.
18 inch chain with an adjustment at 16 inches
Dimensions of pendant: 6.7mm x 15.2mm
Sapphire, the birthstone of September, is most desired in its pure, rich blue colour but is present in almost every colour including pink, yellow and green. In the Middle Ages the gem was believed to protect those close to you from harm and also represented loyalty and trust. It is also the gem that married couples traditionally gift on their 45th wedding anniversary.
Since graduating with an MA from London’s Royal College of Art in 2005, Ruth Tomlinson continues to investigate the unpredictable and push boundaries of perceived preciousness in her critically acclaimed jewellery collections. She is considered by industry experts as one of the leading influences in the current generation of UK jewellery designers, and her unique designs and luxuriously wearable adornments are conceived with the notion of being treasured forever.
'I am driven by my passion for the earths treasures; the magic of minutiae, tiny intricacies, small imperfections, and the individual’s search for preciousness. I seek out the unconventional beauty within and this fuels my creativity, whether in the rarity of material or a curiosity in nature.
My inspiration is drawn from both the mysteries of historical jewels and the ephemerality of natures life cycles from birth to decay. My work is often a response to my immediate environment, whether a fleeting moment on a train in India or being totally immersed in a single jewel at a local museum. My eyes are wide open to new discoveries and I love to observe and absorb my surroundings.'
